Smart Limo

When the Smart Car was first unveiled everyone thought it was a great idea, and hailed the fact that it was incredibly fuel efficient and that it could fit in the tiniest of car parking spaces. However, when we first saw them on the road and glanced inside to the often not compact enough driver, it was hard to stifle a giggle at their cuteness.

However, the car which was designed, built and coveted for its compact size has now joined that elite group of cars who never set out to be a limousine, but there they are. Joining the ranks of the stretch Ferrari limousine, the fire engine limousine, the train carriage limousine and not to forget the ‘horse limousine’ which is more a Photoshop triumph than anything else, the Smart Car has evolved into a stretch limo.

Based on the Smart Fortwo city car, this 17 foot long limousine has been renamed the Carbonyte Smaaart. It has been created by the same people who unveiled their stretched Ferrari 360 around 12 months ago and the stretch was actually led by ex-McLaren man, Chris Wright.

Stretching the chassis of the Smart Fortwo by 2.7 metres, the 5.1 metre limousine was born. However, in stretching the Smart Car, those behind the project kept the tiny car’s 600cc engine. Despite this seeming disadvantage, the Carbonyte Smaaart can still cruise comfortably at 80 mph.

But this creation was not without a good cause because the stretched Smart Car was actually created as a promotional vehicle, and is currently kitted out as a 20:1 scale, fibreglass model of a can, complete with a ring pull. Being a limousine, in the shape of a can, the Smart limousine has van-like storage space, giving it a practical advantage, as well as guaranteeing to turn heads.

The Smaaart can be dressed up to meet any client’s needs in the colours or logos of the company or promotion and is leased out on a daily basis. The creators of the Smaaart have already seen these head turning results as they unleash their limousine onto the roads. But after all, wouldn’t you stop to see a five metre can driving down the road?
